11/19/2023 0 Comments Bmw idrive 8 review![]() Not sure I'd feel the same way with the 4-cyl version. The drivetrain buys an awful lot of forgiveness for the other shortcomings. Takes a bad back to properly appreciate that.įor all that, I'd purchase the car again in a heartbeat. Also happy with the fact both sides have lumbar adjusts. ![]() Sounds like I'm a minority of one but it was a relatively long drive with the sun on my side of the car yesterday and I could really feel those seats making a big difference. Really a needless limitation that represents picayune cost-cutting at its worst. I do miss the armrest USB-C being a data transfer port. Watching the headlights change their patterns is interesting. Tried them on some narrow two lanes with auto high beams on and got no complaints from the oncoming drivers. To counteract that I had the full functionality of the headlights coded back in. A good long stretch of Maine coastal fog is likely to make a believer out of you though. For people that don't drive in fog (as compared to in a fog), you don't know how handy they can be. The absence of discrete fog lights, (including rears - different topic), in the US market, is a poor decision since they're gutting some of the more advanced features of the headlight system. The Nav seems "smarter" than my 19's and is definitely quicker at generating routes, as well as on-the-fly route changes. ![]() I do wish I'd had it coded so that it would support two active phone lines simultaneously as my 19 did. I'm also happy that I don't need them for getting and creating text messages as that is included out of the box. Android Auto and Apple Car Play work the first time, every time. But for a car at this price point is an utter failure. I can live with it as I don't crank up the volume in an urban environment all that often. The base sound system is mediocre at best. ![]() I'm hoping it does or those Bridgestones won't be going back on in the spring. Until I finish my break-in, I'm staying out of sport mode and can't wait to see if the adaptive suspension in sport mode makes a difference. The point is, in comfort mode, with those tires, taking a long relatively sharp curving on-ramp at any kind of decent speed is needlessly exciting. My 19 had Pirelli's which were a big improvement. Both cars came with 19" run-flats, although my 23 has Bridgestone Duelers, a tire that I've never cared for. My 19 didn't have the adaptive suspension just the default sport suspension. A friend of mine that's owned both says Audi for the body and BMW for the drivetrain. I can code the Audi to drop the window, and I think I will. Also, and I don't know if the car's internal venting system affects this, but in the Audi, I need to drop the window down if I don't want to slam the door because the body is so tight. They just are, the Audi's (as well as my wife's previous F31 wagon and my previous F25 2016 X3) are much more substantial feeling. I used to take my cars to a friend that was a body shop expert and was just plain genius at finding problems like this. This type of problem can be a real rabbit hole. I think I'll follow some of the other threads here and see how people make out. The driver's side road noise is definitely louder than my 2019's was and I'm not really sure whether to pursue it or not. But overall, I'm glad I have it in the car. Her Q5 does have one feature I like, and that's the ability to tune the response in curves. Unlike some drivers here I haven't found it too aggressive at changing lanes, but in fairness, I haven't invoked it in heavy traffic so I don't know if it adapts its rate based upon traffic conditions. It performs on a par with the wife's Q5 and offers the automated lane change hers doesn't. Overall, I like it and I'm not generally a big fan of "nanny" features. 600 miles round trip, and try out the Drive Assistant Pro package for a few hundred miles. I'll toss in my take here as it mostly lines up with ASAPįinally got to take a decent road trip, approx.
